MooseWood Nature Center invites the community to a celebration of the Upper Peninsula with food, friends, a silent auction, and door prizes Monday, January 7, 2008, in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library. Dinner and socializing starts at 6 p.m.
The program, “A Tribute to Phyllis Reynolds, Virginia Long, and the Children of Marquette County,” starts at 6:30 p.m. This informal Annual Gathering features a MooseWood progress report, with presentations by Marquette County youth. The youngest presenters will be children from St. Christopher’s Early Childhood Program in Marquette.
Virginia Long was a founder of MooseWood and a retired school teacher who used the natural world as her classroom. Long died in 2006. Phyllis Reynolds is a community activist, MooseWood member, and a volunteer.
Reynolds and Long’s friendship was a source of joy and support for community action for both women. The two women have made significant contributions to improving the lives of area youth.
Art donated by community members will be available at the silent auction. Quilts by Board member Robert Kahl and wildlife scenes by Naturalist Stephanie Kuhlman will be featured.
Dinner will be catered by Vango’s Pizza & Cocktail Lounge, with pizza, salad, appetizers, and dessert. The evening is free and open to the community.
MooseWood is a non-profit nature center located on Presque Isle Park. MooseWood’s motto is: “Changing the World: One Classroom at a time.” For more information, log on to: www.moosewood.org, or e-mail MooseWood’s Executive Director Suzan Travis-Robyns at Suzan@moosewood.org.
